Education is an essential component in achieving success in life. From the very beginning, I have been taught that education is very important because it opens doors and creates opportunities. When I was growing up in the Philippines, the question when you graduate from High School was not 'What are you going to do after high school?," but rather, "Where are you going for college?"
I began my post-secondary education at the University of the Philippines with a scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology. At age 20, I came to the United States and eventually pursued my Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at Aurora University. I graduated in 1992 and soon after, started working as a floor nurse at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, in the Med-Surg-Tele Unit. I had aspirations to pursue a Masters Degree but life had its twists and turns and it took 13 years before I could proceed and work on my Masters Degree in Health Services Administration from National-Louis University. I obtained my MHA Degree in December of 2007. In January of 2008, I began taking classes leading up to a Masters Degree in Medical Informatics from Northwestern University.
